Harper: Earthy Tones and Tasmanian Oak Define This Beautiful Tiny House in the Currumbin Valley

 Behind the Design

Minimalist living is often associated with efficiency, affordability, and simplicity — qualities that align perfectly with the tiny home lifestyle. Once seen as a quirky alternative, the tiny house has evolved into a flexible, eco-conscious living solution — now celebrated for its clever use of space, thoughtful design, and modern aesthetic appeal.

Harper is an elegant tiny home in the Currumbin Valley wrapped in Surfmist Colorbond. It features an eye-catching deco batten curve and natural materials throughout, warmly embracing this eco-friendly housing philosophy.

“We wanted to bring something different to the market as a point of difference for tiny homes. Something really natural and earthy but modern and high-end,” says Rachel of Black Clay, which specialises in designing and building tiny houses.

We explore Harper, a beautiful tiny house nestled in the Currumbin Valley, and discover why ABI Interiors was the natural choice for its concrete basin, brushed nickel tapware and fixtures.

“Sustainability was huge, especially where these sorts of tiny homes could also be placed as well,” says Rachel. “So we tried to stick with as many materials as we could, like natural wood. So we've gone with Tasmanian oak for all of our flooring and our feature battens and shelving internally.”

Wide bi-fold doors invite the outdoors in, perfectly complementing the cosy, tiny home ideal. Inside, a 2.5-metre kitchen showcases a Caesarstone benchtop with matching cabinetry, an adjoining bench seat lounge, and ABI Interiors’ Ohelu Single Kitchen Sink and Elysian Kitchen Mixer in brushed nickel, adding a touch of elegance to the space.

The bathroom is something else to behold. ABI Interiors' Nelios Concrete Wall-Hung Basin in almond anchors the space perfectly, complemented by brushed nickel tapware set against white square tiles and a warm plywood border.

“The concrete basin, just going with that earthy, natural almond colour, [is] just really very beautiful. It's also a great space saver for the bathroom,” continues Rachel. “The brushed nickel is really beautiful and a very classic fixture that goes with anything and [works] really well against the ply.”

A queen bed with built-in storage drawers and timber oak screening completes the home, which offers a snug but satisfying place to unwind amongst tranquil surroundings.

Black Clay tiny homes approaches each build with attention to detail and a focus on lasting quality. Rather than following a mass-produced approach, Rachel explains that each tiny house is treated as a one-of-a-kind project, with careful attention to materials, finishes, and functionality.

“Our point of difference [is that] we're only building one tiny home at a time. So all of the materials we're ordering are very specific to the one tiny home,” she says.

“We'd love to continue on with these projects and make more, build more, design different designs, and go from there,” adds Justin.
