With its distinctive character and vintage-inspired aesthetic, antique brass tapware offers a timeless alternative to modern fixtures, bringing warmth and enduring style to homes and commercial spaces.

Our Antique Brass Tapware Range

Our durable antique brass taps are crafted using an innovative tumbling process, where raw components are placed in a vibratory machine with small stones and ceramic materials to achieve their distinctive aged finish. This process enhances the metal’s texture, resulting in a distinctive organic surface.

Tumbled aged brass features a solid brass construction that naturally develops a rich patina over time, perfect for those who value a finish that gains character and charm with age.

We also offer Antique Aurum, crafted from 304/316 stainless steel and treated with the same three-step tumbling process. Enhanced with ABI HeatShield PVD electro-colouring, it delivers exceptional durability while maintaining its antique appearance, so it stays looking flawless and won’t change over time.

Both raw tumbled aged brass and PVD-coated Antique Aurum options are highly durable.

Antique Brass Tapware FAQs

What is antique brass tapware?

faq open

Antique brass tapware refers to taps and fittings finished in a warm, muted brass tone, with a softly aged, timeless appearance. To achieve this look, raw components undergo an innovative three-step tumbling process in a vibratory machine with small stones and ceramic materials, which enhances the metal’s texture. The result is a durable finish with a distinctive, organic surface that adds depth, character, and timeless appeal to both classic and contemporary spaces.

How is antique brass different from standard brushed brass?

faq open

Antique brass differs from standard brushed brass mainly in its rich character and the way it naturally develops a patina over time. While brushed brass has a clean, uniform, and contemporary finish, antique brass features a warmer, more muted tone and a subtly textured appearance. Thanks to its tumbled process, antique brass has a distinctive, lived-in look that adds depth and character to any space.

Is antique brass tapware WaterMark and WELS certified?

faq open

Yes, antique brass tapware is fully WaterMark and WELS certified, ensuring it meets Australian standards for quality, performance, and water efficiency.

Does antique brass tapware rust or stain over time?

faq open

Our Antique Aurum tapware is engineered for lasting durability, with a PVD-coloured finish that preserves its distinctive look and resists rust, tarnish, and fading over time.

Our tumbled aged brass variant, however, features a natural patina that will continue to evolve over time, gradually deepening in tone. The way each piece ages will vary depending on its installation environment and usage. If preferred, the finish can be refreshed and restored to its original appearance.

How should antique brass tapware be cleaned and maintained?

faq open

Please consult our fixtures care guide for detailed instructions on how to best clean and maintain your tapware.

Is antique brass tapware water-efficient and environmentally friendly?

faq open

Yes. ABI’s antique brass tapware is designed with both water efficiency and sustainability in mind. Many products are WELS-rated, helping reduce water consumption without compromising performance, while durable construction and high-quality finishes ensure long-lasting use that supports environmentally conscious design choices.

Does antique brass tapware suit modern bathrooms and kitchens?

faq open

Antique brass tapware works beautifully in modern bathrooms and kitchens, adding warmth and richness without overpowering clean, contemporary lines. Its soft, heritage-inspired finish complements minimalist palettes, natural materials, and sleek fixtures, creating a refined balance between timeless character and modern design.

What is the difference between tumbled aged brass and antique aurum?

faq open

Both finishes start with the same innovative tumbling process, where raw brass components are placed in a vibratory machine with small stones and ceramic media. This technique enhances the metal’s texture, producing a distinctive, naturally organic surface.

Tumbled aged brass is left in its raw state, allowing it to naturally develop a unique patina over time. This finish is ideal for those who appreciate a living surface that evolves with character and use.

Antique Aurum undergoes the same three-step tumbling process, then receives ABI HeatShield PVD electro-colouring. This adds superior durability while preserving the antique appearance, meaning the finish will not age, tarnish, or change over time.

Both options are highly durable; the choice comes down to whether you prefer a naturally evolving patina or a consistent, long-lasting antique look.

Do we apply clear lacquer to our tumbled aged brass products?

faq open

We exclusively offer unlacquered brass.

Lacquer is a thin coating resembling varnish and is often applied to brass to prevent oxidation and tarnishing. However, lacquer tends to degrade over time due to cleaning products and salty environments, typically lasting only a few months or years, depending on the environment and quality. Once it begins to flake off, cleaning becomes challenging as lacquered areas remain shiny and may appear more yellowish.

Will my tumbled aged brass products darken over time?

faq open

The natural patina on tumbled aged brass from our Antique offering will continue to develop over time, potentially leading to a darker appearance. Each product will patina differently depending on the installation environment. However, the finish can be restored to its original condition if desired.

How do I restore my tumbled aged brass to its original condition?

faq open

You can use a quality brass cleaner like Brasso and a clean, soft cloth to keep tumbled aged brass shiny and return it to its original state without compromising its integrity.
