ABI Interiors Partners with Ronald McDonald House Charities to Support Families in Crisis

At ABI Interiors, our brand purpose is clear: to enrich lives by enriching spaces. As a long-standing partner of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) NSW, we’re proud to contribute to creating welcoming spaces that support families during some of life’s most challenging moments.

“Often, accommodation is the last thing a family is thinking of when they’ve been rushed to hospital with a child’s emergency,” explains Kristen Grainger, House Manager of Ronald McDonald House Newcastle.

“We offer more than just a place to stay; we provide support, financial relief, and a sense of community during what can be an incredibly stressful and traumatic time.”

Most recently, we donated a range of kitchen and bathroom fixtures to Ronald McDonald Family Retreat in Forster and Ronald McDonald House in Newcastle — helping to create nurturing spaces that offer comfort, functionality, and care.

Interior Designer Melony Lea led the design of the recent refurbishment of Ronald McDonald House, Newcastle. She aimed to balance everyday functionality with emotional comfort, creating a space that truly feels like a home away from home.

“Given the unique nature of the RMHC projects, we wanted to partner with brands that shared the same core values and vision. After meeting with Luli and the ABI team, we felt an instant connection and a natural alignment,” Melony explains.

“We take a highly sensitive and thoughtful approach to create comforting and uplifting spaces that accommodate families while their child receives treatment for a serious illness or injury. Calming colour palettes, organic textured tones, and soft textiles help reduce anxiety and create a sense of physical and emotional warmth.”

Melony was drawn to ABI Interiors’ range for its timeless design, enduring quality, and meticulous attention to detail.

“By incorporating ABI products into the RMHC projects, we created the perfect balance between practicality and beauty — a calm, nurturing environment that feels like home to the families staying there while still delivering the elevated design we wanted to achieve,” she explains.

“We create functional, versatile layouts that can adapt to changing needs. Comfort zones are considered for both young and old, as well as accessible areas that provide easy navigation for those with mobility concerns,” says Melony.

“We were lucky enough to have ABI Interiors donate their Aliro Collection for the accessible bathroom at RMHC. Our design concept was to provide a comfortable and luxurious bathroom experience to all, regardless of their abilities, and the Aliro Collection did just that.”

Newcastle House Manager Kristen shares that feedback from families who’ve stayed in the newly refurbished, self-contained units has been overwhelmingly positive. 

“Families have expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the new spaces, describing the environment as tranquil and comfortable,” she explains.

“The newly refurbished units offer a sanctuary that helps families maintain a sense of normalcy during challenging times, allowing them to unwind and rejuvenate after a long day at the hospital.”
