Some of our most commonly asked questions are “How does the tapware age?”, “Does it change colour over time?”, “Will this patina?”.  The simple answer is that our products do not change colour over time and this is because of the way that they are created. Our tapware undergoes a complex colouring process in order to produce the quality finish that is has. Our colour range includes 7 different finishes each have their own colouring process and care guide.

Here’s what you need to know:

Our DR Solid Brass tapware range comes in Brushed Brass, Brushed Copper, Brushed Gunmetal, Brushed Copper, Brushed Nickel, Chrome, Matte Black and White.

Once constructed, our DR Solid Brass tapware completes one of the following colour treatments in order to develop its finish:

  • (AEA) – Advanced Electroplating Application
  • (PVD) – ABI’s Heat Shield – Industrial Grade PVD Electro Colouring System – Physical Vapour Deposition
  • (PSLT) – PrimeShield Lacquer Technology

Colouring Process: (PVD) Physical Vapour Deposition

Tapware that has been PVD heat treated in its colouring process provides a very durable finish that does not discolour or patina overtime as it is not a living finish. PVD coloured products are designed to be used in a residential setting and with regular cleaning will maintain their appearance and colour permanently. For best results, we recommend using a microfibre cloth, natural soap and water.

Colouring Process: (PSLT) – PrimeShield Lacquer Technology

White differs from the rest of our solid brass range. To make it as durable as possible, we have worked towards finding the best finish available; PrimeShield Lacquer Technology. This is a hard durable semi gloss finish that is easy to clean and doesn’t absorb dirty marks like alternative white finishes.

Colouring Process: (AEA) – Advanced Electroplating Application

Our Matte Black range undergoes an Advanced Electroplating Application (AEA) to colour the solid brass and create the matte black finish (this is a lot more durable than a powder coated finish). Due to the matte finish, it does mean you need to be a little more cautious with harsh surfaces and cleaning products, as it can effect the plating and scratches can occur causing the colour to be removed. If a solution is required to clean stubborn marks, please be mindful to not use harsh or abrasive chemicals.

Our Chrome finish is easy to clean with a soft microfibre cloth and water. If a solution is required to clean stubborn marks, please be mindful to not use harsh or abrasive chemicals.
